Cliff Pascoe Cliff worked for Hillcrest mill in late 1943 as an electrician's helped, also helped to build the gang mill at Mesachie Lake. In 1946 Cliff worked in the woods as a second loader and chaser. After completing an electrical course in Vancouver became a journeyman electrician. Cliff left Hillcrest in late 1950.

Here is Cliff's own story

I was an electrician with Hillcrest Lumber at Mesachie Lake from early 1947 to late 1950, my helper was Emile Viala and our boss was Wylie Grant an Electrical Engineer and he created many innovations for the mill. One of my jobs was to do the wiring for the new church in Mesachie lake town site  (I believe it was to be called St. Christopher's).  I was instructed to wire the church by Mr. Carlton Stone in such a way that no wiring was to be exposed. This created a lot of work as the interior was of open design with logs straddling the walls which bore the over head lighting fixtures which were made by hand in the Hillcrest shop by Bob Biskupovich.  After I surveyed the overhead logs and conferring with my boss Wylie Grant we decided that I would have to straddle these logs and with a hammer and chisel and gouge out a channel deep enough to conceal the BX cable that carried the wire for the light fixtures.  I can't remember how many logs I did and how long it took but I believe it made Mr. Stone happy.

ROBERTHA HONORA PASCOE (PORTELANCE):

Robertha was born in 1927 and died in 2006.  Robertha worked as a steno in the Hillcrest office at Mesachie Lake from 1943 until 1945.  Pictured to the left is the cover of her book that she wrote entitled "Camp People". A wonderful story about growing up in small lumbering camps.  Robertha was the daughter of saw filer Leo and Mary Portelance.
