GEORGE ROBERTSON:

This photo was taken at Mesachie Lake in 1945 and was given to me by Ruth Buckham, whose father was Adam Dickson, foreman of the planer mill until 1960, when he retired. This photo was taken in the planer mill at Mesachie Lake.

George Robertson is pictured 3rd from the left. George was a planer man at Sahtlam Hillcrest for many years as well as at Mesachie Lake after they moved in 1943. In later years George became the oiler, which was a much easier job.

From left:  Unknown, Adam Dickson, George, unknown, Bill Owens (in white) Art Gibbins, John Peters, Ally ( a chinese worker who had been working for Adam since the earlier Sidney Sawmill days), unknown, unknown.

JOE ROBERTSON:

Joe Robertson is pictured third from the left on the bottom row.  This photo was taken at Sahtlam Hillcrest in June of 1940.  Joe told me that he used to deliver news papers to my folks home when they all lived at Sahtlam.  Joe later went off to the war but returned to Mesachie Lake as the planer set up man on the big Timber Sizer with Bill Johnstone.  In later years Bill told me that Joe taught him everything he knew about planers.

Joe also looked after the two small moulding machines called stickers.  Joe hand made all the knives for the older Berlin babbet bearing sticker machine.

When Hillcrest closed down Joe went to work for another company that purchsed the old Timber Sizer.  Joe eventually went to work as planer set up man with his old side kick Bill Johnstone who by this time was planer foreman at Honeymoon Bay.
